Orderly Narration

Writing document in proper order is very important. Changing the order of the procedure will result in confusion.
Below is an example on the working of ATM that explains the difference between a properly ordered and a poorly ordered procedure.

Poorly Ordered Procedure

How ATM Works?
  1.  Insert or swipe the card into the card reader.
Note: If the ATM uses dip card reader, insert your card or if it uses swipe card reader swipe your card.
  2. When a message on the screen asks for the PIN, enter your PIN using keypad.
  3. Once the correct PIN is given, the ATM display screen will ask for your language. Select your language using the adjacent selection keys or touch screen.
  4.  Take your card from the ATM card reader slot before you leave.
  5.  When the ATM displays the available applications, choose your application and proceed.
In the above procedure, there is no connection between the step 4 and step 5. In addition, the step 4 stands orphan without relating the step 3. This is an example of poorly ordered or incorrect procedure.

Note: If the ATM uses dip card reader, insert your card or if it uses swipe card reader swipe your card.
  2. Wait for the message on the screen that asks for the PIN, enter your PIN using keypad.
  3. Now select your preferred language using the adjacent selection keys. The available applications are displayed.
